CUP DEFEAT FOR SPORTS

Friday 10th May.............Westlands went down 3-2 to Merley Cobham Sports in the Dorset Premier League Cup Final at Dorchester last night. Westlands were reduced to 10 men after 35 minutes when Scott Smith picked up a second yellow card but Sports kept battling and two brilliant goals from  ALEX MURPHY (2) kept them in the game. In the end however, they lost out to the better side on the night. Full Match report

CUP LOST ON PENALTIES

Monday 6th May.............heartbreak for the Westlands Under 18s yesterday as they lost the final of the Somerset Under 18 League Cup on a dreaded penalty shoot-out. Sports performed very well on the day, and having gone behind to an early penalty they fought back and when GEORGE WESTON equalised in the second half it looked as if Sports would go on to lift the trophy. The chances were there for that second goal but unfortunately we couldn't score, even hitting the bar twice. Westlands however can be proud of a stirring performance which on another day may have gone their way. Full match report

CHAMPIONS !!!!  (and runners-up !)

Sunday 28th April................congratulations to Westlands Reserves who clinched the Dorset Senior League title yesterday with a dramatic 3-2 win away to Allendale. Trailing 2-0 at half time Sports came back from the dead to clinch the title with the winning goal coming two minutes from time ! ISAAC STOREY started the fightback and two STEVE FLYNN headers finished the job. Full match report

In the Dorset Premier League the first team beat Sherborne Town Reserves 4-0, and with Merley Cobham losing at Gillingham, that clinched the runners-up spot for Sports.  After a goal-less first half dominated by the strong wind, Westlands upped the pace in the second half and ran out comfortable winners thanks to goals from ANT HERRIN, ALEX MURPHY and NICK VOSS who bagged a brace.
